The Bark River Gunny Hunter LT is a more compact version of the Bravo 1. Originally this knife was designed for (para)military use. Soon, however, it became clear that this knife was capable of a whole lot more. Today the Gunny is a popular knife among bushcraft enthusiasts and hunters. It is solidly constructed, with enough blade thickness for more demanding tasks. At the same time, it’s lightweight enough to take with you on hikes. This is an ideal knife that can be used for many purposes. This special Hunter version of the Gunny has a sabre grind. This means the grind is different from the regular Gunny. The Hunter is slightly thinner behind the edge and therefore better suited for camping and hunting. The Gunny Hunter also doesn’t have jimping or a thumb ramp. In addition, this is the LT version. This means that the blade is slightly thinner.
The blade is made from CPM 3V steel, a tool steel that is known for its exceptional strength. It is very hard to break, and also retains its sharpness well. You do, however, need to be careful with moisture and acids: CPM 3V is not completely stainless. Make sure to clean the knife after use and occasionally apply a drop of oil to keep it in great shape. The edge has a convex grind that can be maintained by stropping it.
The handle is made of canvas micarta, which is a strong and lightweight material made from linen and synthetic resin. It feels comfortable in hand, even in wet or cold conditions.
The Bark River Gunny Hunter LT comes with a leather belt sheath.
